The Greatest Storyteller, continued

Theme:  The Great Storyteller:  Four more parables

Scripture:  Matthew 13:24–46

“I will open my mouth in parables;
    I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”

Observation:  Today we look at four more parables or stories and how they describe God’s Kingdom:

1.       The parable of the weeds

2.     The parable of the mustard seed

3.     The parable of the leaven and

4.    The parable of the hidden treasure

Application:  These are not new stories or thoughts.  Jesus said they are things that have been said since the foundation of the world.  Four parables, four applications:

1.       The kingdom of God is priceless!  We need to be willing to do or sell whatever is necessary to obtain it.  Not that it can be bought with money, but the point being that it is more important than anything else and will bring the most joy to obtain it.  It has GREAT value!

2.     The kingdom of God takes time.  If you have ever made yeast bread you know it takes time to rise up.  You cover it and put it in a warm place and let it rise.  I believe this is Yeshua’s message.  Everything is not yet revealed.  Everything will happen in His time.

3.     The kingdom of God seems to start out small, but in the end it will be amazing!  A place for many to find rest.

4.    In the kingdom of God is grown in this world.  There are “weeds” all around us, but in the end God knows whose are his and there is coming a time of great separation.  May we all be in the “not-weed” category!

Prayer:  Father God, I pray that we could gain a bigger understanding of your kingdom.  I pray we would realize the full value and worth of being a part of Your plan and Your story!  Thank you for Your word and for Your patience with us as Your story continues to develop and Your kingdom continues to grow in us and around us.  In Your name I pray, Amen & Amen.
