The Great Storyteller

Theme:  The Great Storyteller: The Parable of the Sower

Scripture: Matthew 13:1–23 (for comparison also see Mark 4:1-9; Luke 8:4-15)

The disciples asked, “Why do you speak to them in parables?”

Observation:  It’s not always about the story, but the Storyteller!  Yeshua was an amazing Storyteller.  While the disciples didn’t understand why He used parables the scripture tells us that they did understand the parables and the One who told the stories (parables) (see verse 17).

Application:  There have been many teachings and sermons on the types of soil Jesus used in this parable.  I will not go into all of that, except to say that we want to be a people who have good understanding.  I encourage you to make that your prayer today.  Study the scriptures.  When you are challenged on something – search out the scriptures for a better understanding.  Pray.  Pray for more understanding.

The Greek word there for understanding means:  to "put facts together", it is a means to arrive at a summary or final understanding (complete with life-applications) and is closely connected with discerning and doing "the preferred-will of God".  Understanding involves then three things:

1.       To study and put all the facts together

2.     To gain a final understanding

3.     To act on that understanding (bear good fruit)

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, Please give us ears to hear and good understanding!  May our hearts be like that of the good soil ready and able to bear good fruit because we listen and have good understanding.  Amen & Amen!
