dependence, submission, surrender, yieldedness, reliance
Today's focus will be on RELIANCE.
... the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied (sha'an) upon the LORD God of their fathers ... And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, [it is] nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest (sha'an) on thee, and in Thy Name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou [art] our God; let not man prevail against thee ... Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely (sha'an) on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand. For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of [them] whose heart [is] perfect toward him ... II Chronicles 13:18; 14:11; 16:8-9a;
שען sha`an ~ to lean on, trust in, support
In Chapter 16 verse 7 because they didn't rely on God, but in a human king their plans failed. Isaiah 31:1 says WOE to those that rely on horses (anything but God!). We must cry out to God like Asa did and recognize that it is nothing with God! All things are possible for Him!
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean (sha'an) not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Proverbs 3:5-8
How does Yeshua (Jesus) instruct us?
"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden,
and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
The word rest here is a word from the root word in Greek meaning to rely on which has the same basic definition of the word in the Hebrew sha'an.
We can rest and rely on our LORD for today's strength and to help you overcome in any area you are struggling with. Ask Him to show Himself strong in your life and then watch with expectation as He moves on your behalf.
