O - Observations:

I think my biggest observation in this whole passage is that Yeshoshua, Jesus, only had one accusation against Him ~ that He was King ... they beat Him, spat on Him, stripped Him naked and put thorns on His head which they proceeded to pound into His head ~ all because He was King ... they humiliated Him and pushed Him to His physical limits and mocked Him. They cried out for His death, preferring to crucify a King instead of a criminal. They told Him to come off the cross and save Himself not realizing He was there to save them. King He was, supreme in everyway. Having access to legions of angels and yet humbly accepting His death without word to His accusers.

Christ suffered for no fault of His own, but for the sins of His people, even for the sins that they committed in and through His necessary crucifixion.

A - Application for me today:

This is a hard passage for me. It was necessary that He die, to become the perfect sacrifice for sin, but I have a hard time wrapping my mind around it all, the gruesomeness of it, the way He was treated. The people who demanded His life could do nothing but demand He be crucified otherwise what if they had demanded Barabbas be crucified and Jesus be released? Where would our salvation be then? Prophecy had to be fulfilled, Yehoshua had to die. Our minds can not possibly understand all the things that took place that day, but we can by faith accept it and apply His blood, the blood of an innocent man, a just man, as Matthew 27 says, to our lives and live by giving everyday back to Him to do as He bids.

Give up something today, crucify your flesh to honor your King!

P - Prayer in response:

Father, my King, you died a criminal's death when you were innocent of all things. My mind can't understand it ... it is hard to read this account in this chapter ... As Matthew Henry says in his commentary, " ... when we behold what manner of death [you] died, let us in that behold with what manner of love [you] loved us (me)." Even your accusation was to Your honor ... accused of being King, is there is greater accusation? We want your Kingdom, but how often we want it without tribulation and death - that it why it is so hard to read this passage, but how much then are we like those who demanded you come down from the cross. Yes, the cross is necessary, sacrifice is necessary. It was needful for You to die and while we end this Chapter in Matthew which You in the grave the story does not stop there! You are alive and risen again! Hallelujah, Hallelujah! Thank you for dying a sinner's death to pay in full the sin I commit. Help me to live today and each day being more and more changed by reading and applying this part of Your WORD to my heart and life.

In the Mighty Saving Name of our King, Yehoshua, The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Amen & Amen.
