S - Scripture: Genesis 17:1-27
(Excerpts and summary of the above passage, please read in it's entirety before proceeding)
I [am] the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect ... And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him ... Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham ... an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee ... As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah [shall] her name [be] ... Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed ... And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly ... But my covenant will I establish with Isaac ... And he left off talking with him, and God went up ...
O - Observations:
The Almighty, Most Powerful God appears to Abram, the God who has the power to deal violently with or destroy Abram (shadad) but instead His power was used to bless Abram and cut a covenant with him and his seed after him. El Shaddai comes to Abram and said "halak paniym tamiym" literally to live, to walk, to go, to come in front of my face or in my presence whole and complete, with integrity and in accord with truth and fact.
In the paniym (face) of The Almighty, Abram fell on his paniym (face) ... Abram was thrust down in the presence and power of the The Almighty and God began to talk, converse, sing, promise (dabar) with Abram promising him a son to be named Isaac, promising the land of Canaan and giving him and Sarai new names, Abraham and Sarah.
A family, a home and new names!
At the end of their conversation "kalah dabar Elohiym alah", God accomplished, finished, completed talking with Abraham and went up, ascended, was taken up or withdrew, to go up.
A - Application for me today:
Shaddai is thought to be from the word "shadaim" the Hebrew word for breasts indicating the sufficiency and nourishment of the LORD who blessed Abraham and Sarah with the blessing of a son. Sha (who) dai (enough) ... El Shaddai ~ The God who is enough, all sufficient.
