January 12 (Tivet 16) ~ Genesis 12

Tivet is the Biblical month.

BUILDING ALTARS

S - Scripture: Genesis 12:1-20

" ... and there builded he an altar (mizbaakh - altar from the root zabakh meaning to slaughter, sacrifice) unto the LORD, who appeared unto him ... and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD ... Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD..." Genesis 12:7b, 8b, 13:4

O - Observations:

1) No matter where Abram (later re-named Abraham) was he built there an altar to the LORD. One article I read said that the three altars represented 3 changes in his life a) the separation from sin when he left Haran b) the separation from worldliness when he left Lot and they separated their worldly possessions and c) the third altar (the one Isaac was sacrified on) was an altar of total surrender and it cost Abraham everything. Each represented a measure of worship. How much will we give or give up for total surrender and ultimate worship of the LORD of lords?

A - Application for me today:

1) No matter where I am at home, visiting family, on vacation, in my normal work week ~ I need to build my altars in worship before the LORD.

2) I think the last thing I would say is that there are three levels in the tabernacle a) the outer courts b) the Holy Place with the golden candlestick, shewbread and incense and finally the c) Holy of Holies, the throne of God. Perhaps if this is true that Abraham's altars represented three levels of worship then it could represent the three levels through the Tabernacle which was a pattern of the Heavenly things (Hebrews 8:5).
a) We come to the Door (I Am is the Door ~ John 10:9) into the outer courts where the sacrifice of the spotless Lamb was made - the place where we wash our hands and feet in the Laver ~ this is the place to remove all sin and be cleansed and we worship Him for our salvation and cleansing ...
b) Next we come into the place of prayer at the Altar of Incense (Revelation 8:3-4) and there we worship through intercession.
c) Finally, last, but not the least by far, is the Holy of Holies were we come to ultimate worship ... the very Presence of God at His Throne.

I think as we move throughout our days and our lives we can worship him through each of these levels as we minister as priests to our King (I Peter 2:9).

P - Prayer

So Father I come before you in a new place. I set up my altar here in this place and worship you. I thank you for your cleansing and forgiveness of sin. I praise you for the power of intercession that comes before you like incense and I praise you for your Kingship and LORDSHIP over all thing. You are the King of kings and LORD of lords. Almightly, most Holy God, we worship you. May my life be lived in such a way that whereever I go I can leave altars of worship to You.

B'shem Yeshua HaMashiach
In the Name of Yeshua the Messiah
Amen & Amen
