Living by Faith
S - Scripture: Genesis 50:1-26
"And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen." v.8
Note: The next time they leave ~ they will not leave these things ... see Exodus 10 specifically verses 8-9, 26
O - Observations: Jacob (Israel) dies and Joseph has him embalmed in a 40 day process and the Egyptians mourned for him for 70 days. After the days of mourning are over Joseph gets permission from Pharoah to go and bury his father. So they left and came to the threshingfloor of Atad where they mourned another 7 days. Then they buried Jacob and returned to Egypt.
After the burial of Jacob the brothers of Joseph were afraid of what Joseph might do to them for their past sins, but Joseph reassured his brothers that "God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive ..." and comforted them by speaking kindly to them and telling them "... fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones ..."
At the end of this short chapter we find the end of Joseph's life but not the end of his story. He bids the Israelites on his death bed to carry out his bones from Egypt when they leave. He knew one day they would leave thus giving them a hope to carry with them in the years of slavery that would follow his death, thus Joseph died.
A - Application for me today:
Joseph lived a life of faith. He had faith in the God who allowed him to go through the things he went through in order to get him into a position he could do the most good and preserve the remnant of his family. He had faith in God to lead the people out at the appropriate time.
My application today is simple ... to live a life of faith ...

Dare to take God at His Word. Dare to trust Jesus Christ for salvation. Dare to pray, “Lord Jesus, I’m a sinner. But You have shown Your love for me by dying to forgive my sins, and You have proven Your power to save me from death by Your resurrection. Lord, change my heart, and save me by Your grace.”
