We are wrapping up the book of Matthew. Today's devotional comes from Matthew 26:57–75.
Have you ever stayed up all night, maybe
pulling an all-nighter for college, or working through the night to get a job
done? Or perhaps one of your kids kept
you up sick all night. The next day how
were you? Were you able to go through
your day, how about the next day? There
have been times I have stayed up all night working, sipping coffee through the
night just to make it. The adrenaline
probably hit the next morning and I was able to make it, but staying up or
getting little sleep can wreck a body and a mind.
Here we see Jesus arrested in the
middle of the night and being put on trial in the wee hours of the morning. He was on trial not for anything He had done, but
for WHO He was claiming to be. He went
through one trial and then another. They
were hammering Him with questions trying to find a reason to put Him to
death. He already had a reason though – “For
God so LOVED the world that He gave His one and only Son …” Jesus was ready to die, to take the cup we
looked at yesterday, all for LOVE.
Who is Yeshua? He is LOVE!
And in this passage we read He is the Messiah and He is the Son of
God. Do you call Him by these
titles? He is Messiah – sent to save His
people from the punishment of sin, which is death, but the people had a
very different idea of what Messiah should be or do; they thought He should save them from
their enemies, namely the Romans. Do you and I have the right view
of who and what the Messiah should be?
Yeshua is the Son of God. He would give His life and then return to His
Father in Heaven. When He made this
claim they went crazy crying out, “Blasphemy!”
If this had been in our day and age a judge would be beating his gavel on the bench calling for "order in the court". But everything happened just as He said it would giving further evidence to His claims of who He was and is.
The evidence was in, but they did not
believe.
Application: Who do you say Yeshua (Jesus) is? Who is He to you? I would love to hear your comments or
thoughts on Who He is to you!
Prayer: Father in Heaven, Thank You for Yeshua our
Messiah, the very Son of God. Thank You
for loving us so much that You were willing to send Your one and only Son. Thank You Jesus, Yeshua our Messiah, for
being willing to lay down Your life and submit to a false trial, being spit
upon and beaten with fists for me and for the whole world. Thank You for being willing to submit to the
Father and take on that awful cup of wrath – the punishment and anger of God
for the sins of the world from the beginning of time until the end. There is truly only One deserving of all
praise and glory – the precious Lamb of God, slain before the foundation of the
earth. It is through Him Christ our
Savior, Yeshua the Messiah, the Son of God, I pray. Amen & Amen.
